Choosing from our Brass Idols
Brass has been India's sacred metal for over a thousand years — most of what you'll find in temple sanctums is brass or bronze. It's dense enough to feel substantial in a 3-inch idol, survives daily abhishek and tilak, and develops character with age instead of wearing out. Our brass pieces come from artisan families in different craft clusters across India — each region with its own casting and finishing traditions — and we work with these makers directly.
Practically, brass doesn't rust, tolerates water, oil and sindoor, and holds intricate detail — which is why it's the safe default for any murti destined for your pooja room, not just display. Darkening over time is patina, not damage: polish restores the bright finish anytime, and antique-finish idols are deliberately darkened for that aged look.
Solid or hollow — and why it's not a quality question
Larger brass pieces are frequently hollow-cast rather than solid. That's standard practice, not a shortcut: brass is dense, so a solid idol at 7 or 8 inches would be unreasonably heavy and expensive for no gain in finish or detail. Hollow casting keeps a piece a manageable weight while the outside — where the craftsmanship actually shows — is identical either way.
Antique finish vs a genuine antique
Worth being clear about: our 'antique finish' pieces are newly handcrafted idols with a deliberately aged surface treatment, not vintage or inherited objects.
